Bonkowski & Associates will recommend a more extensive Phase 3 study when Phase 1 and 2 investigations indicate a high probability of hazardous and/or toxic waste, or a regulatory threshold is exceeded The purpose of the work is to define the extent of contamination, including its type and location, the significance of existing contamination, and its effects on human health and the environment.

The extent of a Phase 3 investigation is usually negotiated with a lead agency prior to its implementation. The level of effort may include: the collection of soil and groundwater samples for chemical testing, geophysical surveys to identify subterranean structures that may be sources or contaminant migratory pathways, hydrogeologic and geologic site conceptual modeling, and hazardous waste and toxic waste inventory audits. Based upon the results of the work, Bonkowski & Associates may recommend a Corrective Action that may include an evaluation of remedial approaches and technologies that can address Site contamination. Bonkowski & Associates engineers have years of experience developing value engineering approaches to the remediation of soil and groundwater contamination, considering both regulatory requirements and the Client’s financial constraints.
