Professional History: Mr. Terres has a background in engineering geology, groundwater hydrology, environmental geology, and project management. His background includes nearly 20 years of practice with Leighton and Associates Inc., and over 6 years with Pacific Soils Engineering Inc. He has provided geologic services to private and public corporations, and numerous public agencies. Projects that Mr. Terres has worked on include large multi 100–million dollar construction projects to small single-lot projects. He has provided services for many large commercial and residential projects from their inception through project completion. Mr. Terres’ focus has been primarily on the geotechnical aspects of projects, however, he has also had numerous projects which groundwater and groundwater-related issues have required significant analysis. Mr. Terres’ geotechnical experience includes landslide and slope stability investigations, active fault evaluations, rippability evaluations, and soil and rock characterization. He has evaluated groundwater conditions for landfills, landslides, residential developments, commercial developments, and groundwater conditions associated with the preservation of wetlands. Mr. Terres’ master thesis characterized the geologic conditions associated with thermal springs and the groundwater systems in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties.
Mr. Terres is familiar with numerous field investigation methods and field instrumentation. This includes larger-diameter bucket augers, hollow-stem augers, rotary and reverse rotary auger drilling, continuous core drilling, air-track drilling and large backhoe and excavator trenches. Other field methods that he is very experienced with include down-hole geophysical instrumentations, slope inclinometers, manometers, surface seismic refraction and reflection analysis, and resistivity methods including STING and SUPER STING surveys. For his nearly 26 years of experience, Mr. Terres has provided geologic field monitoring for many large hillside and flatland projects prior to and during the earth moving phases of developments where multi-million yards of earth are moved. These projects have provided him with a unique experience and understanding of actual subsurface geologic conditions that are encountered.
Mr. Terres has managed a small office and co-managed larger offices. He has managed individual projects ranging from a few hundred dollars to multi-million dollar projects. He has a proven track record of providing clients with accurate budgets, and consistently delivers projects on a timely basis and under budget. Mr Terres believes that communication is the most important aspect of project.
